Ronald McDonald House

What a fun event! Game developers from Red Storm Entertainment hosted a “game night” equipped with an ice cream bar, for the residents of the Ronald McDonald House in Durham, NC. RMH plays a vital role in keeping families close together while their seriously ill child is receiving medical treatment at Duke Children’s Hospital or WakeMed Children’s Hospital. RMH creates an environment where families facing similar challenges can support each other and cope with incredibly difficult situations. The goal was to bring a bit of fun and levity to children who are carrying the weight of the world on their shoulders. RMH accommodates 55 families each night. This housing is provided for little to no cost, allowing families to focus on what is truly important.

In 2018, Red Storm and Microsoft teamed up to donate custom “gaming carts” to RMH. The mobile carts are helpful to kids in recovery who cannot get out of bed easily to play with others, so the carts can come to them! Red Storm updated the gaming carts with new games including Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Rainbow Six Siege, Trials Rising, and Starlink: Battle For Atlas.

Expert Character Artist Chris Wells (above) demoed his process for concept art and character design. Senior Environment Artist Andrew Dixon showed off some flight path AI and the painstaking detail that goes into world-building. And finally, Audio Director Justin Drust gave the group an overview of the audio pipeline, including how a player triggers sounds along a path.

Once the group jumped into multiplayer they commented on how hyper-aware they now were of the sound and music that was being layered into the game. ***Disclaimer: We cannot guarantee that you will ever experience video games the same way after we show you how they’re made!***

Stack Up is a non-profit organization that helps veterans through gaming. They send “Supply Crates” of video games to soldiers who are deployed in combat zones or recovering in military hospitals. They conduct “Air Assaults” by flying deserving veterans to video game and geek culture events. And they form “The Stacks” which are teams of veterans and civilian volunteers organized by location. The Stacks come together to bring friendship, community, and support to those coping with PTSD or transitioning back to civilian life.

Girls Make Games Fellowship Program

In continuation of the Girls Make Games series, Red Storm Entertainment hosted several “Fellows” from the GMG Fellowship Program. GMG is a summer camp for girls aged 8-17 years old. The Fellows who are 18 years or older, spend 3 weeks mentoring the campers as a Camp Coordinator (logistics) or Camp Counselor (teaching). Once camp is complete, the Fellows are given unique networking and mentorship opportunities. Emily, a college student majoring in English, had the opportunity to shadow two Red Storm developers.

First, Emily spent time with Central Clancy Writer Richard Dansky, where she was given an overview of game writing and how to work with a team. Second, Emily shadowed Senior Associate Producer Aimee Achilli, where she walked through the production process on “The Division 2” and learned how a producer works with an art team.

Welcome Ubisoft CRC!

Red Storm Entertainment welcomes the Ubisoft NCSA Customer Relationship Center (CRC) to the Cary Campus!

Ubi_Logo.jpg
Team_Photo.jpg

The CRC’s primary purpose is to deliver a positive and memorable experience for gamers and Ubisoft consumers, alike. This is accomplished through deliberate efforts that aim to ensure that employees, players, production teams and other partners in business (internal and external) are provided with support, solutions, guidance, engagement opportunities and information as needed. For gamers though, CS may be best known as frontline responders when issues or questions arise in-game. The NCSA CRC supports and drives player engagement for all Ubisoft titles, all platforms, and events for the ‘North, Central, and South America’ player audience. Their sister site, the EMEA CRC, is responsible for the other half of the globe. Both CRC’s support every game Ubisoft has ever released!

Ubisoft purchased the campus in 2018, but a complete renovation was required prior to move-in. The buildings were gutted down to the studs in order to create a space that was befitting of the two studios. Red Storm was the first to move into the space in June 2019, while construction continued on the CRC portion until recently.

If you love video games and have skills and talent associated with: Customer Service, Social Media, QA, Training, Workforce Management, Data Analytics, System Tools, Coding, Content Creation, Ecommerce, HR or General Management, the CRC should be your next employment goal! Or for some, working at the CRC can be a stepping stone for aspiring game developers. Several Red Storm developers started working at the CRC while still in college perusing a game-related degree. Regardless of your path, the CRC prides themselves on a family-like culture that is both collaborative and inclusive. Expectations are high, but support is provided, and successes are celebrated along the way.

Red Storm looks forward to sharing the space and future team building activities with our new neighbors.
